Do drink plenty of water
It is surprising how simply drinking water regularly and staying hydrated can help clear your skin. Dry, dehydrated skin is more prone to acne. This is because dry skin secretes more oil, which can lead to clogged pores and in turn, cause breakouts. Drinking 2-3 litres of water a day helps keep the skin hydrated. Water, along with regular moisturising, can help in keeping breakouts in check. You can even try to incorporate cucumber or lemon induced water in your day to keep things interesting. Don’t over-wash your face
Remember how we told you about face washing do’s and don’ts here? You need to wash your face no more than twice a day. Washing your face too often will dry out your skin. It strips the skin of natural oils, making it dry, flaky and irritated. The result? Acne! So stick to washing it only twice a day.
Do eat fresh fruit and veggies
A vitamin and mineral rich diet are good for acne prone skin. Eat fresh fruit, vegetables and grains. Incorporate whole foods in your diet. Processed food like packaged biscuits, chips, etc. have high sugar content, which can be a cause for certain types of acne. Research has also shown that high fibre diets can help combat acne prone skin. So incorporate loads of fibre as well. If you aren’t a fan, you can have your fruit and vegetables in the form of smoothies.
Don’t use physical scrubs
Physical scrubs will further inflame acne prone skin. Since your skin is already super sensitive, the pulling, tugging and scraping of a physical scrub can cause it to breakout more. Try to avoid putting any additional strain on your skin. Use a chemical scrub with an ingredient like salicylic acid. Salicylic acid works great at cleansing your pores without irritating your skin. Use it only once a week but do so only when your skin is clear.
Do use light makeup but make sure you take it off
Use light makeup; skip heavy foundations and concealers whenever possible. Don’t forget to remove your makeup once you’re home. Makeup residue can cause clusters of acne while you sleep at night. So no matter how lazy you are, give your skin some respect and get rid of your makeup using a makeup remover that removes every trace of makeup from the skin.
Don’t pop your zits

If you’ve been struggling with acne prone skin for a while, be open to consulting a dermatologist. Certain ypes of acne can be treated at home but if your acne seems to have made a permanent place in your skin, the best thing to do is consult a dermatologist.
Don’t forget to use clean towels and linens
Keep everything that touches your skin, clean. This means pillow cases, fresh towels, spectacles, sunglasses and phone screens! Also make sure you keep your hair clean and out of your face!
